This course in an exploration of the English vocabulary. We will be concerned with where the words of English come from, how new ones are created, how they mean as well as what, who uses them, when, where and why. The goal is to expand your vocabulary and increase your awareness of the choices available to speakers and writers, as well as to enhance your ability to read, interpret and appreciate a variety of texts. There will be weekly exercises and a final examination.
Students will also be required to keep a vocabulary journal where they will record new words learned by individual reading throughout the semester.
