Das Fernsehen gilt zwar nach wie vor als Leitmedium im Bereich der Massenkommunikation, jedoch tritt die Bedeutung neuer, "interaktiver" Medien zunehmend in den Vordergrund. Die alten Massenmedien bieten nur wenige, indirekte Möglichkeiten der Rückkopplung für ein weitgehend passives Publikum. Dagegen eröffnen neue Medien (computervermittelte Kommunikation) vielfältige Wege der individuellen Nutzung und Gestaltung der Medienkommunikation. Diese Möglichkeiten werden als Interaktivität neuer Medien beschrieben. Im Seminar werden zum einen die Formen der Interaktivität neuer Medien im Unterschied zu alten Massenmedien beleuchtet: Was ist das Neue neuer Medien? Zum anderen wird der Gehalt des Begriffs der Interaktivität vor dem Hintergrund soziologischer Interaktionstheorien kritisch diskutiert.
