Im Zentrum dieser Veranstaltung stehen zwei Autoren: Shmuel N. Eisenstadt und Jacob Taubes.
Shmuel N. Eisenstadt macht unverrückbare Visionen und Prinzipien der Weltreligionen zum Gegenstand seiner vergleichenden Zivilisationsanalyse. Jacob Taubes erhebt das moderne Erlösungsbedürfnis zum unaufhebbaren Motor der politischen und sozialen Kämpfe. In der Gegenüberstellung beider Ansätze ergeben sich Fragen über die unterschiedliche Bedeutung von Religion im Prozess der kulturellen Globalisierung: Stehen individuelle Konstitutionsformen im Zentrum oder sind es auf Religion zurückgehende Beherrschungsmöglichkeiten hegemonial ausgelegter Strukturen?Das Seminar widmet sich in seinem ersten Teil der Lektüre von Basistexten, im zweiten Teil sollen die unterschiedlichen Positionen herausgearbeitet werden.
