Anna Seghers lebt und schreibt von 1933 bis 1947 im Exil, nachdem sie vor den Nationalsozialisten zunächst nach Paris und Marseille und schließlich über Martinique nach Mexiko-Stadt fliehen konnte. In dieser Zeit entstehen nicht nur zahlreiche publizistische Texte, die die Erfahrung der Migration und der existenziellen Bedrohung zum Thema haben (wie etwa der Aufsatz „Frauen und Kinder in der Emigration“), sondern auch literarische Texte (wie „Das siebte Kreuz“ (1942), „Transit“ (1944) oder „Ausflug der toten Mädchen“ (1946)), in denen die Figuren vor dem Hitlerfaschismus fliehen oder sich im Exil befinden. Das Seminar ist als Einführung in Leben und Werk Anna Seghers zu verstehen. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, welche poetologischen Mittel eingesetzt werden, um Flucht und Migration literarisch darzustellen und welche Poetologien des Exils dabei entstehen.
