In this class we will look at language in the American South. The first thing that we'll do is try and define the South. When we look at it from a linguistic point of view this means that we will use StAmE as a point of departure for describing English in the Southern States. We'll also look at the heterogeneity of Southern English. Here our focus will be on phonetics and grammar.
