The class will draw on a wide array of possible explanations for the variety of life courses and developments over the life course.

These explanations range from genetic variation to cultural forces. These forces must not be thought of as mutually exclusive but can intertwine in quite complex patterns. This raises questions of theoretical integration as wll as methodological issues.
