Course Description
In this course students can obtain the practical skills of designing, implementing
and analyzing simulation models. In a 4 day block course, the objective is to
give students a basic familiarity with programming in C and using FLAME
(Flexible Large-scale Agent Modelling Environment). This will allow students to
design, implement and analyse agent-based models using the FLAME modelling
environment.
In the remainder of the semester bi-weekly meetings are held in which a
larger exercise will be worked out.
Course Objectives
• Implementation and testing of models
• Simulation and visualization of the results.
Course Topics
The course topics include:
• Basic introduction to C Programming
• Programming using the FLAME modelling environment
• Overview of other useful tools
Prerequisites and Requirements
A basic familiarity with programming languages would be advantageous.
Examination
As examination a larger exercise consists in a reimplementation of the well-
known Nelson Winter Model (1978). Students have to write a report of 10
pages of the code implementation and simulation results.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
