319011 Praktische Übung zu Agenten-basierte Simulation (Ü) (WiSe 2012/2013)

Course Description
In this course students can obtain the practical skills of designing, implementing
and analyzing simulation models. In a 4 day block course, the objective is to
give students a basic familiarity with programming in C and using FLAME
(Flexible Large-scale Agent Modelling Environment). This will allow students to
design, implement and analyse agent-based models using the FLAME modelling
environment.

In the remainder of the semester bi-weekly meetings are held in which a
larger exercise will be worked out.

Course Objectives

• Implementation and testing of models
• Simulation and visualization of the results.

Course Topics
The course topics include:

• Basic introduction to C Programming
• Programming using the FLAME modelling environment
• Overview of other useful tools

Prerequisites and Requirements
A basic familiarity with programming languages would be advantageous.

Examination
As examination a larger exercise consists in a reimplementation of the well-
known Nelson Winter Model (1978). Students have to write a report of 10
pages of the code implementation and simulation results.
