Das Seminar bietet einen Überblick über das lyrische und dramatische Werk Bertolt Brechts. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt vor allem auf den Arbeiten, die Brecht bis zum Gang ins Exil vorlegte. Näher beschäftigen werden wir uns zuerst mit der 'Hauspostille', dann mit folgenden Stücken: 'Baal', 'Die Hochzeit', 'Mann ist Mann', 'Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny', 'Die Maßnahme' und 'Die sieben Todsünden der Kleinbürger'. Auch Brechts theoretische Überlegungen zum epischen Theater, zum Lehrstück und den damals neuen Medien Film und Radio werden im Seminar eine Rolle spielen.

Referenzausgabe ist die Große Berliner und Frankfurter Ausgabe der Werke Brechts, die für die einzelnen Texte konsultiert werden sollte.
