Die Ende der 50er Jahre entstandene Bewegung der Nouvelle Vague hat eine neuartige Filmästhetik hervorgebracht, die in radikaler Weise mit der traditionellen Bildsprache, dem überkommenen Formeninventar und den narrativen Darstellungsverfahren des etablierten Kinos bricht und auch außerhalb Frankreichs einen nachhaltigen Einfluss auf das zeitgenössische Kino ausgeübt hat. Das Seminar verfolgt ein zweifaches Ziel: Zum einen soll ausgehend von wichtigen filmtheoretischen Ansätzen (Kracauer, Bazin, Balázs, Deleuze) eine Einführung in zentrale Begriffe, Konzepte und Verfahren der Filmanalyse (Montage, Bewegungsbild, Zeitbild e.a.) vermittelt werden. Ausgehend von ausgewählten filmkritischen Schriften sowie Dokumentar- und Spielfilmen der Regisseure Truffaut, Godard, Chabrol, Resnais e.a. soll zum anderen ein Überblick über die wichtigsten filmästhetischen Postulate (‚Autorentheorie’, Film als ‚Akt der Liebe’ e.a.), experimentellen Darstellungsverfahren (Primat des Visuellen, Präsenz vs. Repräsentation e.a.) sowie variierenden Genres der Nouvelle Vague erarbeitet werden. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird dabei der Verbindung von Film und Literatur gelten, die vor allem in den literaturtheoretischen Konzepten und narrativen Verfahrenstechniken des zeitgleich entstandenen Nouveau roman (Robbe-Grillet) greifbar wird.
Die zu behandelnden Filme und Texte werden zu Semesterbeginn bekanntgegeben; die Textmaterialien werden zudem auf Stud.IP bereitgestellt.

Erwünscht (wenngleich nicht zwingend erforderlich) ist die Fähigkeit zum Verständnis französischsprachiger Texte und Filme. Weitere Vorkenntnisse werden nicht vorausgesetzt.

Voraussetzung für die Seminarteilnahme ist die Vorbereitung der Filme, die Lektüre der behandelten Texte, die Mitarbeit an einem ausführlichen Thesenpapier und die Übernahme einer Diskussionsleitung (ggf. in der Gruppe).
