230823 Englisch: Up Front: English Meetings and Presentations, level B2 and higher (S) (WiSe 2012/2013)

Contents, comment

Practice presenting in English both up front and center and/or in a group or meeting setting.

This class is good for students who want to get English practice, receive tips and feedback about delivering presentations and discuss ideas and agendas in a medium sized group. This class is excellent for almost anyone who wants to work on their English fluency and their presentation skills. However, it would be particularly helpful for teachers, those training to teach in English, masters and doctoral candidates or any one who has the need to use English in meetings, the classroom or at conferences. It is ideal for people that will be required to teach and lead discussions in English. Participants can optimize their results by using their presentation time to either practice giving a lecture, delivering a conference talk, or presenting to a general or classroom audience.

To successfully complete the course, students will be required to give presentations, participate in an organized class debate and actively participate in our "weekly meetings". The class will be conducted like a meeting in order to maximize the authentic language practice. We will establish weekly agendas (based around the presentations), and during the first weeks, we will work together to establish a set of rules for our group. We will decide how we will run our classroom "group". Since this is a fluency and skills class, participation is the most vital element of this class.
