230819 Englisch: English and Culture in Second Life, level B1+ (S) (WiSe 2012/2013)

Contents, comment

Be part of an innovative and revolutionary new way to study English, but with all the social contact of a regular classroom!!!

This much more than just an English language class. This class provides students with the opportunity to practice and learn English while at the same time meaningfully exploring the many different faces of culture in the English speaking countries of the world - all without ever leaving Germany. This class is unique in that it utilizes Second Life as a Virtual Learning Environment in order to provide students with an interactive and 'virtually' hand-on experience of the various cultures in places where people speak English.

During the course of the semester we will compare and contrast the cultures of North America, the United Kingdom, and the Southern Continent countries of South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand in an attempt to better understand how these cultures are both divergent and parallel. This class is ideal for those interested in improving their English through an exploration and experience of culture.
