Mögliche Welten spielen eine wichtige Rolle in der gegenwärtigen Philosophie. In der Modallogik etwa erlauben uns mögliche Welten, Modaloperatoren festzulegen und das Verhalten dieser Operatoren zu erklären. Ebenso können wir bspw. die Funktionsweise natürlichsprachlicher Konditionalsätze mit Hilfe möglicher Welten besser verstehen. Im Seminar wollen wir uns mit solchen Anwendungen möglicher Welten in der gegenwärtigen Philosophie auseinandersetzen.

Neben den Anwendungen möglicher Welten sollen uns Fragen beschäftigen, die die Ontologie möglicher Welten betreffen: Gibt es außer unserer aktualen Welt weitere mögliche Welten? Wie sind sie beschaffen? Existieren sie auf dieselbe Weise wie die aktuale Welt? Und: Was haben verschiedene Antworten auf diese Fragen für Konsequenzen für die Anwendungen möglicher Welten?

Die Seminartexte werden weitgehend in englischer Sprache verfasst sein. Die Sitzungen finden in deutscher Sprache statt.
