Begrifflichkeiten und Methoden der Mediensoziologie werden seit einiger Zeit herausgefordert durch eine Debatte über alte und neue Medien, die sich am Begriff der Praxis orientiert. Wegweisend hierfür sind vor allem Arbeiten aus dem Umfeld der sog. Akteur-Netzwerk Theorie. Als deren prominentester Vertreter gilt Bruno Latour, der sich der Begründung einer Soziologie verschrieben hat, die mit vielen soziologischen Kernüberzeugungen brechen will. Vor allem die Annahme, dass es nicht allein Menschen, sondern auch Technik, nicht-menschliche Lebewesen und Dinge sind, die am Zustandekommen von Handlungen mehr oder weniger gleichberechtigt mitwirken, hat auch in der Mediensoziologie nichtzuletzt wegen der neuen elektronischen Medien große Resonanz gefunden. Im Seminar wird es darum gehen, zunächst grundlegende Annahmen praxistheoretischer Ansätze zu erarbeiten, um anschließend Versuche kennenzulernen, diese Ansätze für die Medienforschung fruchtbar zu machen.
