The lecture will explore the central role of patient ehavior in achieving clinical effectiveness from prescribed medications. Taking a behavioural science perspective, we will examine how medication adherence is defined and measured, common barriers to medication adherence, and how medical practitioners can support people to take their medications as prescribed.

Gastwissenschaftlerin: Louise Foley, National University of Ireland Galway, Ireland:

Louise Foley is a visiting researcher at the AG 5 “Allgemein- und Familienmedizin”, Medizinische Fakultät OWL. She is in the final year of her PhD at the School of Psychology at NUI Galway, Ireland. Her background is health psychology and her research project is exploring medication taking behaviours among people who live with multiple chronic conditions. Louise is interested in applying both qualitative and quantitative methods, and the potential for Public and Patient Involvement to impact postgraduate research.
