Die Publikation ist das Kernstück der Wissenschaft, sie ist Mittel der Kommunikation und dient dem Reputationserwerb. Das produzierte Wissen als solches wird erst über Publikationen sichtbar und damit kommunikativ anschlussfähig. Ein wichtiger Impuls für die Herausbildung der modernen Wissenschaft ging im 17. Jahrhundert von der Gründung der ersten wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften aus. Das wissenschaftliche Publikationswesen hat sich seither in vielerlei Hinsicht gewandelt. Je nach Publikationsform und Publikationsort unterscheiden sich auch die Anforderungen an die Darstellung wissenschaftlicher Ergebnisse, die bestimmten redaktionellen Entscheidungsprogrammen unterliegen. Ziel des Seminars ist es, mit Blick auf die Publikation als Kernelement der Wissenschaft allgemeine wissenschaftssoziologische sowie relevante mediensoziologische Problemstellungen zu diskutieren und mittels konkreter Fallanalysen u.a. zum Peer-Review Verfahren, zum Medienwandel des wissenschaftlichen Publizierens, zu disziplinspezifischen Publikationskulturen und zur Bedeutung von Ethikkodizes der wissenschaftlichen Publikationspraxis zu vertiefen.
