Der erste Teil der „Historischen Orientierung“ behandelt das Basiswissen der Alten Geschichte (Übung im Vorlesungsstil). In 7 Wochen werden die Hauptepochen der Alten Geschichte dargestellt: archaisches, klassisches und hellenistisches Griechenland, Römische Republik, Prinzipat und Spätantike. Parallel zu besuchen ist ein Grundkurs „Einführung in die Alte Geschichte“. Es folgt eine Klausur am 29.5. von 90 Minuten, die auch den bis dahin behandelten Stoff des Tutoriums zum Grundkurs behandelt.
Der zweite Teil der „Historischen Orientierung“ (ab 5.6.2012) behandelt eine Epoche der Alten Geschichte intensiver. Dieses Mal wird das Klassische Griechenland thematisiert. Im Zentrum stehen die wichtigsten historischen Phänomene sowie ausgewählte Quellen, die exemplarisch behandelt werden. Die Modulprüfung, eine schriftliche Quelleninterpretation in Form einer Hausarbeit, wird in einem der begleitenden Grundkurse (s.o.) angefertigt.
