220068 Die Griechen unterwegs - Die archaische Zeit jenseits des "Mutterlandes" (S) (SoSe 2012)

Üblicherweise betrachtet man die Griechische Geschichte aus ihrem geographischen Zentrum heraus. Das Seminar wechselt die Perspektive und geht dem Schicksal der wandernden Griechen an der Peripherie nach, die als Söldner, Piraten und Kolonisten das Mutterland verließen, um in der Fremde ihr Glück zu machen. Ausgehend von einschlägigen Passagen aus Homers Odyssee reicht die Spannbreite der Beispiele über die Lyriker Archilochos, den Spartaner Dorieus bis zu Skylax von Karyanda, der im Auftrag des Perserkönigs das Indusgebiet erforschte.
Begleitend zum Seminar findet eine Übung „Quellen zum archaischen Griechenland“ statt, in der einschlägige Quellen (in Übersetzung) gelesen und interpretiert werden.
