Der lateinische Alexanderroman gehört zu erfolgreichsten und am meisten rezipierten Werken der abendländischen Literatur überhaupt. Das abenteuerliche Leben des einzigartigen und jung verstorbenen Welteroberers Alexanders des Großen wird in ihm auf phantasievolle Weise ausgestaltet. Es handelt sich um eine Art von "offenem Text", denn beinahe jeder Handschrift weist Zusätze oder andere Eigentümlichkeiten auf.
