The goal of this course is to ensure that students are able to express themselves clearly, coherently, correctly and in an appropriate style in written English in a wide variety of different text types (such as summaries, essays, job applications, personal and professional letters and promotional texts).
In the seminar, students will be given the opportunity to extend and consolidate their writing skills through regular and intensive writing tasks. They will be able to develop their control of grammatical structures and the scope and appropriateness of their lexical resources in a range of communicative contexts, and to reflect together and individually on the writing process.
Participants should have passed the departmental Entrance Test or one of the recognized equivalents. Students in their first semester or those who have not yet done the "Writing" seminar have preference. Anyone who has already taken "Writing"but wants to improve their written English further will not be able to take part in the seminar as such, but should talk to me about alternatives or consider taking John Botham's language support seminar.
Will be presented in class and online. Please pay special attention to the latest version of “Auntie Alligator’s List of Don’ts” on my teaching website.

This seminar requires participants to engage in independent study activities that will provide practice in those areas of English grammar that are especially problematic for German learners in general as well as areas of individual difficulty. At least 70% of the classroom exercises and activities need to be completed to earn credit for this course. This work will help everyone assess their personal strengths and deficits in the mastery of English grammar. There will be a not-for-marks test-like event in the course of the semester, but this is not an official "Klausur" - even if it appears above as a "Klausur" for room-booking puposes.
There is one Module Examination for all the Language Practice courses. (Basismodul 1).
