Das Seminar führt in Theorie und Geschichte der Literatur des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts am Beispiel der Tragödie ein. Im Mittelpunkt steht der historische Übergang vom "barocken Märtyrerdrama" zum "bürgerlichen Trauerspiel". Folgende Aspekte werden hierbei erörtert:
Themen und Motive tragischer Dichtung, tragödienspezifische Handlungstypen, die sozio-politische Stellung des Helden, Veränderungen des tragödientheoretischen Regelkanons, politische und kulturelle Bedeutung des Theaterlebens, Wirkungsästhetik und Theaterpraxis.
Der Formen- und Funktionswandel des tragischen Sujets wird anhand exemplarischer Lektüren thematisiert. Behandelt werden Stücke von Gryphius, Lohenstein, Weise, Lessing, Schiller und Lenz sowie Auszüge aus dichtungstheoretischen Schriften (Opitz, Harsdörffer, Gottsched, Lessing).
Eine Lektüreliste wird in der ersten Sitzung veröffentlicht.
