239772 From Warriors to Knights: Medieval English Literature (S) (SoSe 2012)

This seminar will introduce you to Anglosaxon and Anglo-Norman history, literature and culture (c. 500-1400). We will be reading and listening to excerpts from a variety of medieval texts, among them Beowulf, The Dream of the Rood and Old English riddles; but we will be reading them in translation, with some attention to how the original Old and Middle English has been rendered into modern English.
If possible you should also attend Marion Schulte's class "From Warriors to Knights: Old and Middle English Language“, in which you will get the opportunity to acquaint yourselves in more depth with these older forms of English.
This class (but NOT the one by Ms Schulte) is equivalent to "British History 1".

BA (2007): You should have completed basic module 2 (Literary Studies).
BA (2011): You should have completed at least one of the two AILT courses.
