Die Ekphrasis (Kunstbeschreibung) ist seit Homer stetiger Teil in den Werken der Griechen und Römer. In diesem Seminar wollen wir uns mit verschiedenen Ekphraseis in verschiedenen Gattungen auseinandersetzen. Zum einen gehen wir dabei thematisch vor - Schilde, Tempel, Trinkbecher, Textilien, Paläste -, zum anderen werden wir neben einem lateinischen Beispiel immer auch ein griechisches (dies in Übersetzung mit Blick auf das Original) betrachten.
Folgende Punkte werden uns in jeder Sitzung begleiten:
- Konventionen der Ekphrasis
- Einbettung in das Gesamtwerk
- Poetologische/ narratologische Aussage
- Gattungsspezifika

Wer Latein studiert und noch nicht die Oxford-Ausgabe von Vergil hat, sollte sich diese unbedingt anschaffen.
