Die Funktionentheorie ist auch unter dem Namen "komplexe Analysis" bekannt. Sie behandelt die Analysis über dem Körper der komplexen Zahlen, wo sich nahezu alles zum Schönen wendet.
Die Funktionentheorie ist eine klassische Theorie, die weitgehend abgeschlossen und abgerundet ist. Sie gehört zum Standardrepertoire für die meisten anderen mathematischen Disziplinen, und sollte daher in der Grundausbildung jedes Mathematikers enthalten sein.
