Kolonialismus und globale Migrationen prägen seit vielen Jahrhunderten die Beziehungen zwischen Gesellschaften, sie sind Anlass zu Konflikten und Gewalt, zu Abgrenzung und Selbstvergewisserung, zu kulturellem Austausch und ökonomischer Prosperität. Das Rahmenthema des Grundkurses berührt damit zentrale ökonomische, soziale und kulturelle Aspekte menschlichen Zusammenlebens im globalen Maßstab.
Anhand ausgewählter Beispiele zum Rahmenthema Kolonialismus und Globaler Migration vermittelt der Grundkurs die wesentlichen Grundlagen für eine wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit der mittelalterlichen, frühneuzeitlichen und modernen Geschichte. Die Teilnehmer*innen werden in wichtige Konzepte, Perspektiven, aber auch Methoden und Arbeitsmaterialien geschichtswissenschaftlichen Arbeitens eingeführt. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Probleme des wissenschaftlichen Lesens und Schreibens.
