Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Promovierende und fortgeschrittene Masterstudierende der Fakultät für Soziologie, des Institut für interdisziplinäre Konflikt- und Gewaltforschung (IKG) und verwandter Disziplinen, die sich insbesondere mit sozialer und politscher Polarisation beschäftigen. Dabei geht es unter anderem um die Fragen, in welchen Bereichen soziale Ungleichheiten zunehmen, welchen Einfluss der soziale Kontext auf Orientierungen zur Demokratie oder antidemokratische Einstellungen hat, welche sozialen Milieus anfällig sind, zivilgesellschaftlichen Orientierungen zu widersprechen und wo und wann Populismus erfolgreich ist. Das Seminar richtet sich auch an Doktorand*innen und interessierte Masterstudierende, die Interesse an der quantitativen Forschung haben. Ein Seminarplan wird zu Beginn der Veranstaltung vergeben.

Die Veranstaltung ist Teil des neuen Wissenschaftscampus "SOEP RegioHub at Bielefeld University". Ziel des Campus ist es, auf der Grundlage des SOEP zusammen mit dem DIW Berlin regionale Unterschiede in sozialen Ungleichheiten und politischen Einstellungen und Verhaltensweisen. Das Seminar wird in englischer Sprache gehalten, um Teilnehmer*innn, die nicht fließend Deutsch sprechen, die Chance zu geben, teilzunehmen. Bei Interesse ist es ratsam, sich bei den Dozenten vorher zu melden.

Die Research Class ist aktuell als wöchentliche Online-Veranstaltung geplant, die je in Absprache mit den Teilnehmenden durch einzelne Präsenztermine ergänzt werden kann.

The seminar is aimed at doctoral and advanced master students of the faculty of sociology, the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence, and neighboring disciplines interests in research on social and political polarization. The event is intended to discuss questions concerning, among other things, questions of what influence the social context has on orientations towards democracy or anti-democratic attitudes, which social milieus are susceptible to contradict civil society orientations, and where and when populism is successful. The seminar is aimed at doctoral and advanced master students who are interested in quantitative research.

The event is part of the new science campus "SOEP RegioHub at Bielefeld University". The goal of the campus is to identify regional differences in social inequalities and political attitudes and behavior based on the SOEP together with the DIW Berlin. A seminar schedule will be assigned at the beginning of the seminar. The seminar will be held in English in order to give participants who are not fluent in German the chance to participate. If interested, it is advisable to contact the lecturers in advance.

The research class is scheduled as a weekly online-seminar. We may switch to on-site seminars at Bielefeld University in singles cases if participants prefer to do so.
