Die Veranstaltung beschäftigt sich mit Mikroorganismen, deren Genom vollständig sequenziert wurde. Molekulargenetische Aspekte, die phylogenetische Stellung und stoffwechselphysiologische Besonderheiten ausgewählter Mikroorganismen sollen vor dem Hintergrund der genomischen Sequenz dargestellt werden. Grundlagen für die Bearbeitung der Thematik sind Originalarbeiten, Übersichtsartikel und einschlägige Kapitel aus Lehrbüchern der Mikrobiologie. Mit der erfolgreichen Präsentation von Seminarvorträgen können Leistungspunkte bzw. ein benoteter Einzelnachweis erworben werden. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich vornehmlich an Studierende des Bachelor-Studiengangs "Bioinformatik und Genomforschung" im 5. Semester.
