This course will trace major literary theories that help us understand the aesthetic, political, and cultural significance of literary texts. With reference to Wallace Stevens’ “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” the course will guide the students through various schools and/or movements of how to read literary texts in the 20th and 21st century. We will use a reader-friendly textbook in addition to selected theoretical primary texts to make theories more accessible.
