This seminar aims at providing an introduction to a variety of theoretical approaches practiced in linguistics as well as the differing methods used. This will include at least historical linguistics, structural and generative linguistics, formal and functional theories, cognitive linguistics, contrastive linguistics, contact linguistics, and sociolinguistics, but the list may be expanded to cover such areas / topics as language change, language typology, protolanguage, interlanguage, accommodation, semantic universals, logic, or case grammar.
Open to M.A. and M.Ed. students of British and American Studies.
A literature list will be provided. Reading selections on the individual topics will be made available via Stud.IP.
