As corpus linguistics enables the linguist to look at the real-life use of language, corpora are extremely useful in investigating various linguistic phenomena. They are the basis of research in different fields, e.g. dialectology, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, phonology, language acquisition, grammar, semantics, pragmatics etc.
While we will cover some theoretical issues, the focus of this seminar will lie on your own work with linguistic corpora. Each of you will complete a project in an area of your choice.
If you need 3 CP, you will also have to give a short presentation and hand in a written summary of your project. If you already know that you will need 3 CP please contact me to arrange a presentation topic. Otherwise, topics will be discussed at the meeting on October 12th.
