Diese für alle Master-Studierenden der Literaturwissenschaft verpflichtende Einführungsveranstaltung führt in das Profil des Fachs ein und legt dabei den systematischen Schwerpunkt auf die Fragen danach, was Literatur ist und was die Wissenschaft von ihr zu leisten hat. Neben einigen literarischen Texten werden grundlegende Theorietexte (Auszüge) erarbeitet. Die Veranstaltung wird durch eine Tagesexkursion nach Wolfsburg (Foto-Ausstellung Cartier-Bresson) ergänzt.
