Dieses Seminar vermittelt einen Einstieg in die vergleichende Analyse der germanischen Sprachen. Nach einer Betrachtung der Ausgliederung der germanischen Sprachen aus dem indogermanischen Verband geht es insbesondere um die Ausdifferenzierung der verschiedenen germanischen Sprachen. Exemplarisch wird in diesem Seminar das Altsächsische oder Altniederdeutsche behandelt, diejenige Sprache, die im frühen Mittelalter in der hiesigen Region gesprochen wurde. Neben der Vermittlung grundlegender Kenntnisse dieser einzelnen Sprache sollen Methoden der vergleichenden und diachronen Sprachwissenschaft vermittelt werden.
