Entwicklungen im Bereich soziologischer Medientheorien haben auf den ersten Blick mit Entwicklungen im Bereich allgemeiner Sozial- und Gesellschaftstheorie wenig Gemeinsamkeiten. Das ist verwunderlich, ist doch die Allgegenwart der Medien eines der prägnantesten Merkmale der modernen Gesellschaft.
Dieser scheinbar defizitären Bezugnahme aufeinander soll im Seminar nachgegangen werden. Dazu werden sozialwissenschaftliche und soziologische Medientheorien mit jeweils aktuellen Sozial- und Gesellschaftstheorien verglichen. Im Zentrum des Interesses stehen dabei die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in den Erklärungsmustern, die die Entwicklung der Moderne in der Reflektion über die Medien auf der einen Seite und über die moderne Gesellschaft auf der anderen Seite hervorgebracht hat.
