Following the dialogic headroom opened up during the third BGHS Annual Seminar in February 2011, the summer semester Interdisciplinary Seminar picks similar thematic threads: time and space. It is no accident that time and space have surfaced now and here; since the so-called spatial turn is recognized to have taken place in the bosom of globalization, space and place have transcended disciplinary boundaries, new questions have been asked and untouched realms of analysis have opened up. On the other hand, the coming across of history and sociology at the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology has broadened the interdisciplinary road whereupon the time-space marriage has resulted in shaping dialogues among historians and sociologists alike.
The Interdisciplinary Seminar Time and Space 2011 will focus on such interaction, aiming at beyond here and now. The seminar reader will consist of texts on theory and practice along multiple temporospatial axes which reflect current as well as historical discussions. The fortnightly seminar invites doctoral candidates in history and sociology to add a third dimension to the reciprocity of theories and practices and engage in an interaction, fresh and challenging.
