Das Seminar wird sich mit der Zeit von der Institutionalisierung des Prinzipats (27 v.Chr.) bis zur ersten größeren Krise (Vierkaiserjahr 68/69 n.Chr.) befassen. Es geht um die Stellung des Kaisers im gesellschaftlichen Gefüge oder besser gesagt gesellschaftliche Wandlungen, die durch das Ende der Republik bedingt waren. Neben den einzelnen Machtfaktoren wird es um die Gesamtsituation der römischen Bürger gehen (e.g. Arbeitsverhältnisse, Stellung der Frauen, Sklaverei).
