Gerhart Hauptmann galt einst als der größte Dramatiker des 20. Jahrhunderts und als "Goethe der Moderne". Nahezu vergessen ist, dass er zu den deutschen Literaturnobelpreisträgern zählt (1912). In diesem Seminar sollen seine naturalistischen Anfänge, die seinen Ruhm und Erfolg begründeten, betrachtet werden - und zwar unter literaturhistorischen, gattungspoetischen und thematischen Aspekten.

Vorausgesetzt wird die Kenntnis der unten genannten Dramen.
In der ersten Sitzung wird in einem schriftlichen Test die Textkenntnis folgender Werke abgeprüft:

Einsame Menschen
Die Weber
Nur mit einem bestandenen Test kann das Seminar besucht werden.

In diesem Seminar wird eine kontinuierliche Mitarbeit der TeilnehmerInnen und die Übernahme eines Referats (auch in vorbereitender Gruppenarbeit möglich) erwartet. Für einen benoteten Schein ist eine schriftliche Ausarbeitung (Hausarbeit) erforderlich.
