232049 Decolonization and US Latinidad (S) (SoSe 2011)

This course is an overview of Latin@ Literatures in the United States; it spans over three hundred years encompassing the age of exploration until the present time. We will start reading literature of discovery and colonization moving into literature of resistance, literature of immigration, exile literature and the dislocated self. Embracing, among others, Chican@, Nuyorican, Cuban American, and Puerto Rican authors and by reading literary texts, such as, letters, poems, testimonies, novels, memoirs, autobiographies, editorials, this course seeks to enhance our understanding of Latin@ culture and writing in the U.S.A. and the contributions of diverse Latin@ groups to U.S. American culture.

Bibliography

Students are required to start reading the following texts to their earliest convenience. A reader will also be part of the required reading.
