Postcolonialism has been one of the most controversially discussed topics in cultural and literary studies for many years. By examining a variety of theoretical texts as well as literary works from the time of colonialism and postcolonialism, this course will attempt to outline some of the major developments and positions within this complex field of study.

Bibliography

An extensive reader with primary and secondary texts will be made available via StudIP. In addition students should obtain and read a copy of the following novels/novellas:

H. Rider Haggard, King Solomon's Mines (1885)
Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness (1902)
Chinua Achebe, Things Fall Apart (1958)
Jean Rhys, Wide Sargasso Sea (1966)
