Wirtschaftsethik behandelt zum einen ethische Fragen, die das Verhalten von wirtschaftenden Individuen betreffen. Hierher gehören Fragen etwa der Art, wie weit die Loyalitätspflicht von Angestellten oder die Aufklärungspflicht von Produzenten reicht. Wirtschaftsethik behandelt andererseits ethische Fragen, die ganze Wirtschaftsordnungen betreffen. So wird etwa gefragt, ob eine globale Wirtschaftsordnung wie die unsere, die für Hunderte von Millionen Menschen nur ein Leben im Elend bereithält, ethisch akzeptabel ist.
Das Graduiertenseminar soll beide Arten von Fragen untersuchen, zunächst die individuellen, dann die systematischen. Vorausgehen soll der Versuch, den Begriff „Wirtschaft“ präzis zu umgrenzen.
