Goethes „Faust“ zählt zu den großen Gipfeln der deutschen Höhenkammliteratur, ein zugleich Furcht einflößendes wie faszinierendes Textmassiv mit einer imponierenden Menge vorgelagerter Deutungen und Interpretationen. In dieses schier unwegsame Terrain will das Seminar seine TeilnehmerInnen auf einige Pfade locken, die Einblicke in die Struktur des grandiosen Schauspiels ermöglichen. Nach einigen Informationen zur Geschichte des Faust-Stoffes (Faustbuch von 1587, Dramen von Christopher Marlowe u.a.) wird das Schwergewicht auf einer gemeinsamen Lektüre und Analyse des Goetheschen Textes liegen. Dabei werden auch zentrale Kontroversen in der Deutungsgeschichte kritisch diskutiert.
