Ausgangspunkt dieses Seminars ist das in westlichen Gesellschaften dominierende Verständnis von Familie: Eine Familie besteht aus miteinander verwandten Personen, die mindestens zwei Generationen angehören. Zum Kern der Familie gehören Vater, Mutter und Kind(er). In diesem Verständnis wird selbstverständlich davon ausgegangen, dass Frauen und Männer unterschiedliche Funktionen in der Familie haben. Im Seminar soll eine soziologische Perspektive auf dieses Verständnis von Familie eingenommen werden. Wann hat es sich historisch als hegemoniales Ideal durchgesetzt? Wie hängt dieses Ideal mit bestimmten Formen der Vergesellschaftung (Stichwort: Produktionsweise) zusammen? Welche inhaltlichen Veränderungen lassen sich im Laufe der Zeit und vor allem auch gegenwärtig beobachten? Und schließlich: Was passiert mit den Geschlechterverhältnissen, wenn sich das Verständnis von Familie wandelt?
