Kapitalismustheorie bezeichnet eine Richtung der sozialwissenschaftlichen Theorie, die auf die Analysen von Karl Marx zurückgeht und deren Vertreter versucht haben, diese weiter zu entwickeln und an jeweils aktuelle sozioökonomische Lagen anzupassen. Der erste Teil der Veranstaltung diskutiert einschlägige Texte von Marx, im zweiten Teil werden soziologische Ansätze behandelt, die Marx weiter entwickeln wollten, u. a. die Kritische Theorie, die Ansätze von Wallerstein und Bourdieu. Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es, die grundlegenden kapitalismustheoretischen Kategorien zu erarbeiten und ihre Anwendung in unterschiedlichen Theorien zu verfolgen. Dabei ist stets zu fragen, ob und ggf. in welcher Form der kapitalismustheoretische Ansatz heute noch zum Verständnis der modernen Gesellschaft geeignet ist.
