Please note: this course commences on Thursday, 12th April
The increasing prevalence of public–private partnerships (PPPs) over the last decades has dovetailed with and indeed forms part of the the global governance discourse. PPPs are not only instrumental strategies for conducting policy, but determine to no small extent how we govern ourselves at the local, national and global levels. In other words, they are part of political life itself. This masters seminar will lead participants through the key issues and debates surrounding PPPs from a global governance perspective. It will address fundamental issues including the development of PPPs, their theoretical foundations and implications, as well as their putative advantages and disadvantages from both a policy and political perspective. The seminar will also explore some of the key policy areas of PPPs from a transnational perspective including environmental protection, technology and development. The seminar will consist of introductory lectures, open discussions, task-based group work and participant presentations.
