Das Seminar „Europäische Sozialpolitik“ legt seinen Schwerpunkt auf die supranationale Ebene. D.h. es werden nicht die einzelnen Mitgliedstaaten der EU und deren sozialpolitische Strukturen bearbeitet, sondern vielmehr die EU selbst als sozialpolitischer Akteur in den Blick genommen. Nach ersten allgemeinen Einführungen in die europäischen Strukturen, folgt eine erste theoretische Verortung (aus der Perspektive der Sozialpolitikforschung) der EU und ihrer sozialpolitischen Strukturen. Abgeschlossen wird das Thema der „Europäischen Sozialpolitik“ durch konkrete Textarbeit an Originaldokumenten, konkreten europäischen Politikfelder und/oder durch konkrete Vergleiche mit anderen weltregionalen Staatenverbünden und deren Sozialpolitik.

Allgemeine Grundkenntnisse der Sozialpolitikforschung werden vorausgesetzt. Auf die Fähigkeit englischsprachige Literatur zu lesen und zu verstehen kann nicht verzichtet werden.
