This workshop is directed at former BGHS doctoral researchers in their second year or up, who intend to submit their dissertation within the next year.
Many doctoral researchers realise that throughout the dissertation process, not only their topic and focus have shifted, but also their research aims and scopes have changed. Duties keep piling up, demanding more work and energy than anticipated. At the same time, ideas and results need to be put on paper, and more and more text parts need to be revised and polished.
In this situation, the workshop offers a platform to look back at what participants have already achieved, and to look into the future to realistically plan the remaining tasks and time.
The online workshop consists of two Zoom meetings on Tuesday, 23 June, and Wednesday, 24 June 2020, each from 10 to 13 hours. Participants might want to reserve additional time on the first afternoon to complete or take further some of the workshop exercises.
On day 1, we focus on the following issues:
taking inventory: what has worked well, what could be improved?
looking back, and looking forward: strategies to manage research, writing, and revising efficiently and effectively
On day 2, we zoom in on planning realistically:
structuring texts, organising time and tasks
finishing the PhD successfully: realistic planning with the goal in sight
Following up on the workshop, participants have the opportunity to get together in writing tandems or peer feedback groups to support each other in their writing projects on a long-term basis, possibly with some additional trainer input/support.
Please register for the workshop by sending an email to bghs@uni-bielefeld.de.
