Die Hanse ist heute omnipräsent in Pflaster- und Biermarken, im Verkehrs- und Städtewesen sowie in ver-schiedenen Kulturproduktionen - nur wenige Episoden der „deutschen Geschichte“ sind heute so positiv und gleichzeitig unkritisch besetzt. Im 14. Jahrhundert hatten sich die ersten Strukturen der Hanse etabliert, weitere folgten: Die sogenannte erste gesamthansische Tagfahrt („Hansetag“) fand 1356 statt. Die Forschung sprach von der Transformation der Kaufmannshanse zur Städtehanse – eine Perspektive, die sich aktuell überholt hat. Das Seminar fragt daher nach der Entstehung und der Entwicklung „Der Hanse“ in Nordeuropa und aktuellen Forschungsschwerpunkten. Neben einer allgemeinen Einführung und einem Überblick über das Thema spielen die Strukturen der Hanse (Kontore, Tagfahrten), ihre Akteure (Hansekaufleute) und ihr Einfluss auf die Region eine zentrale Rolle des Seminars.
Im dazugehörigen Kurs „Historische Orientierung“ werden ergänzend und vertiefend die Klassiker der Hanse-geschichtsforschung kritisch gelesen und reflektiert.
