Die Vorlesung soll einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Themen der mittelalterlichen Geschichte geben. Behandelt werden Königtum und Herrschaft, Tod und Sterben, Bürgertum und Städtewesen, Landwirtschaft und (Fern-)Handel, Kirche und Kloster und anderes mehr. Die Veranstaltung ist primär nach Themen strukturiert und gibt innerhalb der Themenbereiche zunächst einen chronologischen Abriss. Anschließend werden Einzelaspekte auf der Basis von Quellen vertieft. Ziel ist es, soweit über die Epoche des Mittelalters zu informieren, dass neue Fragestellungen, die während des Studiums begegnen, schnell in einen weiteren Zusammenhang eingeordnet werden können.
