220039 Raumkonzepte in der Geschichtswissenschaft (K) (WiSe 2010/2011)

Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit Raumkonzepten, die in der doch eher an der Zeit orientierten Geschichtswissenschaft immer wieder an Bedeutung gewonnen haben und legt einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf den sogenannten "spatial turn" der letzten Dekaden. Es werden zum einen allgemeine Raum-Zeit-Verortungen, Überlegungen zu Kartierungen, Überlegungen zu Area-Studies in der Geschichtswissenschaft etc. in den Blick genommen. Zweitens werden ältere, einflussreiche Raumkonzepte diskutiert, z.B. die Frontier-History bei Jackson Turner, politische Geographie bei Ratzel, die Raumvorstellungen der Annales-Schule, in der NS-Geschichtswissenschaft. Als dritten Punkt widmet sich die Veranstaltung neueren Überlegungen zum spatial turn und deren theoretischen Grundlagen, also z.B. den sozialen Räume bei Bourdieu, den Konstruktion von Räumen bei Lefevbre, und daruf aufbauend den Vorstellung des thirdspace bei Edward Soja sowie globalgeschichtliche Vorstellungen z.B. global ethnospaces bei Appadurai.

Bereitschaft zum Lesen und Analysieren schwieriger theoretischer Texte und zur Lektüre englischsprachiger Texte.
