Die Erziehungswissenschaft hat Ende der 1970er Jahre begonnen, die Bedeutung der ersten Frauenbewegung für die Soziale Arbeit zur Kenntnis zu nehmen. Gleichzeitig begann eine sehr kritische Rezeption, die unterstellte, dass das soziale Engagement der ersten Frauenbewegung entweder national eingetrübt war, der eigenen Professionalisierung diente und die schwierige Professionalisierung sozialer Arbeit mitbedingte. Vor allem Alice Salomon und ihre Forderung nach geistiger Mütterlichkeit standen in der Kritik. Gleichzeitig gab es neben der Sozialen Arbeit eigene Beratungsangebote der Frauenbewegung. Im Seminar geht es darum die Aktivitäten der Frauenbewegung zwischen geistiger Mütterlichkeit und Sozialreform nachzuvollziehen und zu diskutieren.
