Bedeutung und Einfluß der Etymologiae Isidors von Sevilla sind kaum zu überschätzen. Diese gigantische spätantike Enzyklopädie bestimmte entscheidend den Wissenshorizont des Mittelalters und hat bis heute oft als einzige Schrift viele kostbare Informationen aus der Antike bewahrt. Die Lektüreübung wird sich speziell mit dem 14. Buch De terra et partibus befassen, das uns kurzweiligen Aufschluß über das geographische Weltbild der Antike und Spätantike gibt.
