Die Carmina Burana, eine mittelalterliche Sammelhandschrift aus der Bibliothek des bayerischen Stifts Benediktbeuren, gehören zu den größten Schätzen der mittellateinischen (z.T. auch mittelhochdeutschen) Literatur. Moralisch-satirische Gedichte, Trink- und Liebeslieder, aber auch geistliche Dramen finden sich dort vereint. Anhand ausgewählter Beispielen wollen wir einen Überblick über dieses überaus originelle, vitale und qualitätsvolle poetische Schaffen gewinnen, das oft anderen metrischen Gesetzen folgt als den aus der Antike bekannten. Zur akustischen Untermalung werden wir natürlich auch des öfteren die berühmte (Teil-) Vertonung von Carl Orff hinzuziehen.
